What you see

The tour page talks about large works by First Nations, Queensland and international artists, alongside the precinct's historic buildings and landmarks: murals, digital light projections, tall sculptures and floating gardens. The artists it names are Tony Albert, Antony Gormley, Tom Friedman, Lindy Lee, Samuel Tupou, Wukun Wanambi and Justene Williams. The precinct owner describes the art programme as one of the largest art procurements by a corporate entity in Queensland.

The starting point is the strongest work to begin with. Lindy Lee's sculpture is an illuminated bronze, eight metres high and weighing eight tonnes, and Lee was born in Brisbane.

Fitting it into the weekend

Saturday morning

  1. Leave bags

If you arrive early, ask the hotel whether it can hold your luggage until 3 pm.

  2. Tour starts

Meet at the Lindy Lee sculpture.

  3. Tour ends on the Sky Deck

Babblers is right there and open since 7 am.

Saturday midday

  1. Brunch

Aloria's weekend brunch seating, if you booked it.

  2. Riverline walk

Down the Brisbane Steps to the mangrove boardwalk.

  3. Check in

Then the pool, as in our main plan.

Why we like it

It turns the hours before check-in, usually wasted, into the part of the weekend where you learn where you are. After it, the rest of our plan — the deck, the bridge, The Terrace — reads differently, because you know what the buildings and the sculptures are.

Groups are small, so book ahead for a particular Saturday. If the Saturday tour is full, the self-guided walk is always possible; The Star counts ten works in the precinct.

Send us your weekend dates

Tell us when you arrive and leave, how many of you there are and which room you are after. Our room desk checks availability and the current rate at The Star Grand for those dates, then writes back by email with what we found — usually the same day.

A request is not a booking and we never ask for card details on this site. If you like what we send, the reservation itself is made with the hotel or with the booking partner that holds the room.

How we are paid: if your request turns into a confirmed stay, the hotel or the booking partner that completes the reservation pays us a commission. You pay the same rate either way — see our revenue disclosure.

We use your details only to answer this request. No card details, no newsletter. Not the hotel's own booking form — the official site is star.com.au/brisbane.

Thank you — your request reached our desk. We will reply by email, usually within one working day.
