Plan B · same weekend, under a roof
If it rains: the weekend under a roof
Two parts of our plan depend on the sky: the Sky Deck and the bridge. The operator says itself that bad weather can change Sky Deck hours, and the outdoor cinema is called off by midday. Here is how we would rearrange the two days.
What weather changes
| Venue | What the official page says |
|---|---|
| Sky Deck | Poor weather conditions may affect opening hours |
| Aloria | Poor weather may affect bookings and walk-ins |
| Cicada Blu and Sky Deck music | Live entertainment can be affected by wet weather |
| Skyline Cinema, Leisure Deck | Cancelled and refunded by midday if the weather is bad |
| Live on Leisure Deck | Subject to inclement weather |
The rainy-day version
Saturday
- Lunch under cover
Cucina Regina or Pompette on The Terrace, inside rather than out.
- Check in
Ask for the room side you prefer; rain over the river is a good view too.
- Sauna and gym
Isoletto's sauna, steam room and indoor gym are part of the pool club.
- Lobby Bar
Tall windows to the river and small plates from the Sokyo kitchen.
- Dinner at Sokyo
In the hotel lobby, no walk outside needed.
Sunday
- Breakfast on Level 2
À la carte from 7:00 to 10:30 am.
- Check the deck
If the rain stops, the Sky Deck opens at 6:30 am.
- Across to the galleries
If it is only drizzling, GOMA and QPAC are a short walk over the bridge.
- Check out
Leave the bags with the hotel if you are staying in town.
Indoor options in the building
- The Lobby Bar and Sokyo in The Star Grand lobby.
- The six restaurants of The Terrace, which have indoor rooms as well as outdoor tables.
- In-room dining at any hour, ordered through the television.
- The sauna, steam room and gym of Isoletto Pool Club, for hotel guests.
Across the river, under a roof
GOMA and QPAC are the obvious rainy-day answer, and the Wheel of Brisbane runs fully enclosed, air-conditioned gondolas. The bridge itself is open to the weather, so take an umbrella for the crossing.
What we would not do
We would not drive somewhere else for the afternoon. On a wet Saturday the car park fills like any other Saturday evening, and the operator does not guarantee a space to hotel guests. Stay in the building, and keep the deck for the first dry hour.
