Questions people ask before a Queen's Wharf weekend
Short answers, each based on an official page. The longer version of most of them is on the page linked from the menu.
What time is check-in and check-out at The Star Grand?
Check-in is from 3:00 pm and check-out is by 11:00 am, according to the hotel's own page. Express check-out is available on request. For a Saturday-to-Sunday stay that gives you about 20 hours in the room, which is why our plan puts the Sky Deck and the precinct walk before 3 pm if you reach Brisbane early.
Is The Star Grand the same hotel as the old Treasury?
No. The Star Grand opened with the first stage of Queen's Wharf on 29 August 2024 at 33 William Street. The Treasury Casino at the top of the Queen Street Mall closed at midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024. The Treasury Hotel is a separate heritage hotel in the Land Administration Building; The Star says it remains open, while the precinct owner lists it as a heritage hotel coming after restoration.
How many rooms does the hotel have?
The hotel page gives 340 rooms. The room list has nine categories, from the City King and City Twin rooms of about 40 square metres to the Skyline Penthouse Suite of 217 square metres on levels 16 and 17.
Which rooms look at the river?
The River King Room, the River Accessible Room, the River Suite and the Skyline Penthouse Suite are described with river views. The City King, City Twin, City Accessible, City Suite and Skyline City Suite face the city.
Can we use the pools if we are not staying?
Isoletto Pool Club on Level 7 is for checked-in guests of The Star Grand and the people staying with them; the official page also mentions day-pass holders. Guests under 18 need a parent or guardian with them. The wider Leisure Deck on the same level is open to the public.
How old do you need to be to go into the casino?
18. The operator's wording is that guests must be aged 18 years or over to enter the casino, and the same rule applies at Food Quarter, Fat Noodle, LiveWire and Cherry because they sit inside it. The hotel, the Sky Deck, The Terrace restaurants and the Leisure Deck are open to families.
How much is parking for hotel guests?
The operator publishes a flat rate of $45 a night for self-parking for hotel guests and $65 for valet through The Star Grand porte cochère at 33 William Street (one page says per night, the other per day). Parking is not guaranteed with a room and the car park often fills on Friday and Saturday evenings. Vehicles over 2.1 metres do not fit.
How do we get there from Brisbane Airport?
The Star's own FAQ calls it a short 20-minute drive from the airports, or a train or bus ride. Airtrain runs from the airport to Brisbane Central every 15 minutes at peak and every 30 minutes off-peak; from Central you walk to William Street. Our getting-there page has a Google Maps route for each option.
Is the Sky Deck free to visit?
The Star describes the Sky Deck as a public viewing platform, and we found no ticket for it on the official pages; you pay for what you eat and drink at Aloria, Babblers or Cicada Blu. It opens from 6:30 am, until 10:30 pm Sunday to Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday, and bad weather can change the hours.
Do the restaurants charge more on weekends?
Yes. The pages for Aloria, Babblers, Cicada Blu, Sokyo and Cucina Regina all state a 10 per cent surcharge on Saturdays and Sundays and 15 per cent on public holidays. We build that into our weekend plan rather than pretending it is not there.
Can we walk to South Bank?
Yes, over the Neville Bonner Bridge, a pedestrian bridge of more than 320 metres that opened on 29 August 2024 and lands on the South Bank cultural forecourt. Streets Beach, the Wheel of Brisbane, QPAC and GOMA are on the other side.
Is breakfast included?
That depends on the rate, which we confirm when we answer your request. The hotel serves an à la carte breakfast on Level 2 from 7:00 to 10:30 am (last orders at 10:00), in-room dining at any time, and Babblers on the Sky Deck opens at 7:00 am.
Do you take bookings or payments?
No. We take room requests, check availability and rates, and reply by email. The booking itself is made with the hotel or a booking partner, and we never ask for card details.
Are you the hotel or The Star?
No. Queen's Wharf Weekend is an independent site. We are not the official website of The Star Grand, The Star Brisbane or Queen's Wharf Brisbane, and we are not affiliated with their owners or operator.
What if it rains on our weekend?
Brisbane storms are short but loud. Sky Deck hours can change in bad weather and the Skyline Cinema is cancelled by midday if the forecast is poor. Our rainy-day page swaps the outdoor parts of the plan for covered ones on both sides of the river.
